3-foot Tall Salad Tower

Courtesy of the Sunday Times (08/01/2012)

This is by far my favourite story of the weekend. So an engineer in China was so fed up of being told by his local Pizza Hut that the salad bar "buffet" had a one-bowl restriction, that he developed an ingenious way to get maximum value for money. After all, the restriction didn't specify how high the salad pile could be.

Putting that hard-earned engineering degree into good use, he set about devising a structure with a solid potato base and a sturdy, cylindrical outer wall of cucumber and fruit, in order to house 3-foot worth of the good stuff inside. Who needs new roads, bridges, schools or hospitals? In one simple stroke of engineering genius which Leonardo Da Vinci would be proud of, he was able to beat both the oppressive regime's "one-bowl policy" and also those Western capitalist bastards at their own game of erm....mass over-consumption.
