Terrazza St Germain

After my recent review of Alfredo Positano (http://overnightchef.blogspot.com/2011/04/alfredo-positano.html), we decided to check out another pizza in St Germain. Terrazza St Germain is on Rue Clement in the Marche St Germain, with one side within the Marche itself and the other side opening up onto the lively square full of restaurants and bars. The terrace is a nice place to sit out for lunch or on a warm evening.

We started off with a mixed platter of grilled Italian vegetables which were fairly standard but all very nicely done - peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, courgette, carrot, cabbage. The best part was tucking into the caramelised onions - absolutely fantastic. The dish was also served with a selection of thinly sliced meats - proscuitto, mortadella, pancetta, salami. This was topped with a few pieces of fresh, creamy bufallo mozzerella. The dipping bread was pretty average. Overall it was a nice starter dish for 2 to share but a bit pricey at 25Euros.

We shared a four seasons pizza which actually tasted pretty good but as you can see from the picture, looked like the chef had forgotten to make any sort of tomato paste. I'm all for using fresh tomatoes as a topping but when it turns the plate all watery then it just destroys the base. The base incidentally seemed like it was actually pretty well made: light and crispy, not at all dry. Had the topping held it's own a bit more, this could have been a pretty good pizza. A bit more TLC in the preperation could have gone a long way!
Still searching for the outstanding pizza of Paris.

  1. I've sampled about 20 pizzerias all over Paris in my attempt to dream about opening my own pizzeria, and I worked mostly off Figaro's list, if you ever want some ideas:http://www.lefigaro.fr/assets/pdf/classement_pizzas_reines.pdf
